Afghan Women Art Exhibition

  • Belfast Exposed 23 Donegall Street Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT1 2FF United Kingdom (map)

Belfast has become an international safe harbour for art made by Afghan women under gender apartheid oppression by the regime. Even with the Taliban ban on creative expression, Women in secret locations have continued to paint.

These paintings are exported to Belfast through the organisation Beyond Skin and partners. The paintings are sold locally and internationally with the sales value sent back to the artists.

The event will have special guest Alina Gawhary who recently through a campaign supported by 100's of people, started a fine arts degree at University of Ulster, three years after the Taliban set fire to her paintings.
