Building Sustainable Futures: the role and potential of cooperatives in Ireland

  • Peter Froggatt Centre, Room 02/011, Queen's University Belfast University Road Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT7 1NN United Kingdom (map)

This workshop investigates the new spaces opened up by co-operative economies whereby people attempt to live with dignity and in autonomy.

In recognising that our current economic system exacerbates social inequalities, political instability and environmental destruction, the workshop will showcase co-operative economic practices that foster more ethical, sustainable and equitable outcomes.

In Ireland, those practices suffer from insufficient academic scrutiny and government attention. Hence, the workshop brings together academics and practitioners, creating a transdisciplinary space to explore co-operatives’ potential in tackling a wide variety of social, economic and environmental challenges and to shed light on existing solidarity economies in the Irish context.
