Palestinian Human Rights NGOs

Palestinian human rights organisations that were forcibly shut down by Israeli forces in August 2022 discuss the impact on their work.

In a dawn raid on 18 August 2022, Israeli forces forcibly shut down seven Palestinian human rights groups’ offices. On 26 August 2022, twenty-four UN appointed human rights experts stated that these forced closures, along with other measures ‘restricting the legitimate activities of human rights defenders,’ has resulted in ‘serious infringements of the rights to freedom of association, opinion and expression and the right to participate in public and cultural affairs, which Israel is fully obliged to fulfill, respect and protect.’

In this webinar representatives of three of the organisations that were shut down: Sahar Francis from Addameer, Hassan Jabareen from Adalah, Susan Power from Al-Haq, and two UN Special Rapporteurs whose mandates cover this situation: Frances Albanese SR on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territory and Fionnuala Ní Aoláin SR on counter terrorism and human rights, discuss the impact of this violence on their work and on the human rights of their staff and the communities they serve.
