Embodied Dignity

  • Yoga Quarter South 243 Lisburn Road Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT9 7EN United Kingdom (map)

What does it feel like to experience dignity in our bodies?

How might we cultivate more of those experiences for ourselves and our communities?

You might have heard the phrase 'the body keeps the score' or perhaps you're familiar with the idea that trauma is stored in the body. This is true. But what's also true is that experiences of healing, connection, and dignity are also be stored in the body.

This event will be a practice space to explore how it feels individually and collectively to experience dignity. Trauma informed yoga facilitators, Ally Armstrong and Maggie McKeever, will guide a practice of movement, centring, and rest. After the practice, there will be space to share any learnings from the practice with the group over food.

Please feel free to bring your lunch to this event. We will also provide some small bites to eat, and tea and coffee. The event will also be livestreamed via zoom if you would prefer to join remotely.

This event is delivered through Belfast Community Yoga, a pilot project funded by The National Lottery.

A few notes on accessibility:

This practice is open to all. No yoga or movement experience is needed.

This practice will be chair based. Movement will be gentle and options will be given throughout the practice with participants being invited to choose what feels best for them.

The front door to the venue is down a flight of stairs. There is also an entryway through the back that does not require the use of stairs. Please let us know if you'd like to use this entryway and we will make sure you have clear directions to find it.
