A Pat Finucane Centre event

On the United Nations International Human Rights Day which commemorates the day in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Pat Finucane Centre (PFC) will host an event ‘Remembering John Pat Cunningham’. The PFC recently launched a book to remember John Pat, his short life and untimely dead. During the event short passages from the book will be read and the families campaign for truth and justice will be discussed.

The event will also incorporate the PFC’s, ‘In their Footsteps’ exhibition. The exhibition is part of a campaign calling on the British and Irish Governments to deal with the legacy of our past. A pair of shoes and a short note remember a person who was killed or injured during the recent conflict. What is unique about this exhibition is that all the victims are represented equally, regardless of the status of the victim or who the perpetrator was, or whether their loved one was killed as part of a mass atrocity or in a single incident. That is why it is so powerful. There is no hierarchy of victims. The families are united in asking for the past to be dealt with.
